Supporting Craft Enterprise

The Eastern Cape Craft Collection works on a consignment basis, and craft practitioners sign a consignor contract with our shop. We add a 20% mark-up on each product.   

Product Selection Process

The Eastern Cape Craft Collection shop’s project manager Marika Jacobs is responsible for the selection of all craft products on consignment. Please arrange an appointment with Marika to discuss your product as well as to show samples of your product on 043 735 1306.

Who Qualifies?

  • Craft products will be selected from all Eastern Cape based craft individuals, groups, enterprises, co-op’s, projects or collectives.

  • Products will be selected from around the entire Eastern Cape Province (all six districts and two metros).

  • Crafters must reside in the Eastern Cape Province.

SELECTION

CRITERIA

  • Craft products made from any medium or combinations of medium will be selected, as long as it complies with basic conservation and public safety standards.

  • Two-dimensional as well as three-dimensional products will be considered.

  • Products are to be of a high standard and high-quality workmanship.

  • Products are to be unique and innovative.

  • Products that showcase a local Eastern Cape flavour.

  • All craft products must be original work by the craft practitioner.

 

A wide variety of different TYPES OF PRODUCTS will be chosen from the following categories:  

FASHION ACCESSORIES  l  HOME WARE  l  DECOR  l  FASHION & APPAREL  l  JEWELLERY  l  GIFTS  l  NOVELTIES  l  CRAFT-ART

This will include:

Visit the Eastern Cape Craft Collective Shop at  Shop No. 2, 85 Old Transkei Road, Nahoon, East London

  • Grass work (traditional and contemporary products will include mats, wall hangings, baskets, brooms, bowls, vessels, light fittings, placemats, hats etc.)

  • Beadwork (traditional and contemporary beadwork products will include jewellery like rings, earrings, bracelets, headgear and necklaces as well as beaded decorations on bags, cushions and apparel, pins, brooches, beaded pipes, walking sticks, beaded crockery, glasses, mugs, ties, beaded shoes, belts, billycans, vests, etc.)

  • Home Apparel (home decor such as table-ware, aprons, placemats, serviettes, table runners, scatter cushions).

  • Fashion Apparel (male and female garments both contemporary and traditional). Please see notes below:

  • Traditional garments like Mbhako will be accepted.

  • Contemporary male and female African garments will be accepted. This will include modern garments with an African flair.  

  • No evening wear and/or wedding attire will be accepted.

  • All apparel has to be neatly stitched and seams must be over locked.   

  • Kids Apparel (boys and girls kiddies wear) 

  • Accessories (bags, belts, caps, hats, doeks, wallets, book covers, handmade pencil cases, cell phone pouches, bookmarks,  journals, Christmas decorations etc.) 

  • Leather work (products will include bags, shoes, belts, key holders, wallets etc.)

  • Felt work (products will include bags, accessories such as brooches, felt decorations like flowers, toys, candle holders etc.)

  • Ceramics (this includes both functional as well as decorative items such as tiles, crockery, vessels, vases, bowls,  platters, plates, lamp shades, candle holders etc)

  • Wirework (wire sculptures, wire bowls, toys etc.)

  • Weaving and dyeing (this will include woven products out of  yarn, mohair, wool, sisal, felt. Products will include mats, wall hanging, magazine racks, washing baskets, toys etc.).

  • Recycled  products (products that are made out of materials such as plastics, bottle tops, shells,  recycled glass, paper, rubber, paper mache and tin (products will include bags, jewellery, furniture, lights, decorative items like plant holders, lamp shades, and toys etc.)

  • Knitting and crocheting (this includes products like hats, beanies, hair accessories, jewellery, broaches, scarves, gloves, throws, jerseys, dresses, shawls, crochet cosmetic boxes and rubbish bins, bags etc). 

  • Wood work (products will include walking sticks, sculptures, utensils like wooden serving spoons, bowls and decor items such as mobiles etc).

  • Toys (handmade dolls, animals, puzzles etc)

  • Furniture (recycled ottomans, recycled tables, small stools, shelves, etc)
